I Have Calmed and Quieted My Soul
1, David's Humility 2, His Calm and Quiet Soul 3, Plea for Israel to Hope in God
(131:1) LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty. Neither do I concern myself with great matters, nor with things too profound for me.
In the brief three verses of Psalm 131 David asserts his satisfaction in the Lord. In verse 1 he states that he does not give his attention to things that do not concern him, in verse 2 he makes an oath declaring himself to be at rest within and then likens himself to a child in his mother’s arms. He concludes in verse 3 by urging Israel to join him in hoping in Yahweh forever.
