When David Fled from Saul Into a Cave
1-6, David in prayer fleeing unto God, complains of his dangerous case. 7-11, He encourages himself to praise God.
(57:4) My soul is among lions; I lie among the sons of men who are set on fire, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword. (57:1) Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; and in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, until these calamities have passed by.
Psalm 57 expresses David's plea for God's grace, calling for His glory amidst adversity, structured chiastically with themes of salvation, exaltation, and praise.
