God Abases One and Exalts Another
1, Thanksgiving 2-5, God Speaks Judgment 6-9, Praise for the Cup 10, God Speaks Judgment
(75:6-7) For exaltation comes neither from the east nor from the west nor from the south. But God is the Judge: He puts down one, and exalts another. (75:1) We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks! For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near.
After the superscription, Ps 75 opens with thanks and praise to God for his presence and power (75:1), then presents what appears to be God himself announcing his intention to bring judgment (75:2–5), followed by the psalmist’s explanation and celebration of that judgment (75:6–9), before the psalm concludes with the judge, apparently the Lord again, declaring that he will judge the wicked and exalt the righteous (75:10).
