(85:6) Will You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? (85:1) LORD, You have been favorable to Your land; You have brought back the captivity of Jacob.
Psalm 85 reflects on Yahweh's past favor and forgiveness towards the people, leading to a plea for restoration and salvation. The psalm is structured chiastically, beginning with a focus on God's past deliverance (85:1–3) and culminating in the promise of righteousness flourishing in the land (85:11–13). It features a progression from questions about God's willingness (85:5–6) to affirmations of His assured actions (85:8–9). Central to the psalm is a plea for lovingkindness and salvation (85:7). The concluding sections emphasize the harmony of justice and mercy, underscoring God's commitment to His people through lovingkindness, truth, righteousness, and peace.
